The American family structure has changed over the decades. Two-parent households are no longer the “norm,” so it’s important that all parties get along for the sake of the children involved. This can be more complicated than you realize, especially if there are still raw emotions between the split couple.
Reality Star, Black Chyna insists that great communication is basic to co-parenting.
Black Chyna shares a 6-year old son with rapper Tyga, and she has a 2-year old daughter with reality star, Rob Kardashian. She told reporters that she believes that her keeping dialogue open with her childrens’ fathers is healthy for them.
Experts agree. Licensed marriage therapist, Dr. Sophia Reed emphasizes the need for parents to get a good understanding of their roles so that they can co-parent successfully. In addition to communication, Dr. Reed says parents should set clear boundaries and rules. Respect from both parents is essential. Dr. Reed stresses the need to create accountability. Both parties should know what is expected of them, and should follow through.
But what do you do if the other parent is mentally, emotionally or physically abusive? If you find that you and your children are being hurt in any way, leave. You have the right to protect your children. And that could go as far as supervised or no visitations. In any case, always report abuse to authorities.
